This film, being my all time favorite, is a magical tale of a society who was brought together through the magic of books. Struggling with the power of the Germans on their shoulders, the group finds happiness through novels such as “Essays of Charles Lamb”, (Charles Lamb) “The Importance of Being Earnest”,(Oscar Wilde) and countless others.

The society catches the attention of a famous writer (Juliet Ashton) when she receives a letter from one of the members, Dawsey Adams. Ashton sets out on an adventure, meeting new people, finding out secrets and learning just how powerful stories can be. She’s given a family; people who she can love and who can love her in return.

While watching, you see a glimpse of what people went through during the numerous wars; of how something as little as a story can bring people together. The storyline focused on the power of words, story telling, and showing that it's crucial to share one’s thoughts and opinions. The sales show just how remarkable this picture was.

The film was a big success back in 2018 and still is. With their box office sales hitting 23 million USD, many say it’s a heartwarming tale and is such a pleasure to view.

I truly recommend this film. It takes you through all the emotions, both good and poor. It portrays that something as little as a story written on paper can bring others together, even through hard times. The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society is now streaming on Netflix and is a must see.

“Do you suppose it’s possible for us to already belong to someone before we’ve met them?”

Juliet Ashton
